Products are handmade to order. I do my best to have them finished within 5-10 days, depending on colors I have in stock. Making these lines on-demand, instead of in bulk, helps me reduce overhead and enables me to offer a wider variety of product options. If you need something fast, just email me and I can let you know what I have already stocked.
This is largely a matter of personal preference. If your dog is smaller and will be dragging the line, you may want to opt for 3/8-inch to keep it lighter. If you prefer to have something more substantial to hold, you may want a 1/2-inch. I typically suggest going with 3/8-inch if your line is going to be longer than 20 ft. This is simply to reduce weight and bulk but, again, it is a matter of personal preference.
This mostly depends on how you will be using the line. If you are working in smaller pens or tighter areas, a shorter line is easier to manage and less likely to get tangled. If you are working in larger fields, you may want a longer line to give you more reach and control. Longer lines are also great for teaching recalls, tracking and scent work. Some people prefer short 6 or 10 foot lines to use as leashes without handles. Custom lengths are available, just shoot me an email.
This is mostly a matter of preference, but some things to consider: think about where and how you'll be training. Bright colors are easier to see, especially in the grass, woods, etc. If you'll be using it on walks rather than as a drag line, darker and more neutral colors won't be as much of an issue.
I am transitioning to all brass hardware because I feel it has better durability. After years of using these lines on a regular basis, I've found that the nickel hardware tarnishes easier over time. That being said, some people prefer the look of the nickel hardware. I'm happy to make lines with the nickel hardware while my supplies last.
Biothane® is a coated nylon webbing that is durable, cleanable and waterproof. It does not absorb odor and does not mold or mildew. With a look and feel similar to leather, but easier to clean, it is a favorite for training lines that are made to be used and abused. And it's made in the USA!
I'm happy to add a handle to any line to make it a leash. There will be an added $2.00 charge. I hope to add more products in the future - suggestions welcome!
